Roos Transfers & Safaris was established in May 2005 by Steve Roos and his son Albert Roos. Both have a passion for wildlife and photography. Steve Roos spent his working career in the coal mining industry in senior management positions in two of the largest mining houses in South Africa.
Steve had an early interest in birds, which quickly turned into a passion for birding. He has spent the last 20 years identifying and adding birds to his personal birding list. His passion for photography also developed from his interest in birds. Since retiring in April 2012 Steve spent much of his time travelling through Southern Africa capturing birds with his camera. He is currently standing on 775 species out of a possible 950 species spotted on his personal birding list.
Owner and manager Albert Roos started the company with Steve Roos after working in the private game lodge industry as field guide (game ranger) and lodge manager. The 8 years he worked with mostly international guests in some of the best lodges in South Africa gave him the opportunity to work with wildlife, but also to expand his knowledge of 4x4 driving and wildlife photography.
His experience in dealing with international visitors afforded him the knowledge regarding what their expectations were when visiting South Africa. With this knowledge, and first-hand experience of the lodge industry, wildlife, 4x4 driving and his knowledge of photography, Albert decided to start Roos Transfers & Safaris with Steve Roos.
